3.3.09 Alabama 2008 New and Expanding Industry Report
The 2007 estimated population of Chambers County is 35,207. Chambers County has historically relied upon textile manufacturing for the bulk of its employment base. However, the area has lost thousands of textile jobs over the last ten years.
The January 2008 civilian labor force in Chambers County was 15,565 of which 14,264 were employed and 1,302 were unemployed. The unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.
The largest major industry sector is Manufacturing (31-33), with 32 percent of the employment, followed by Retail Trade (44 & 45) with 12 percent, and Health Care and Social Assistance with 10 percent.

Because of the prime location our of industrial parks, companies locating in Chambers County will draw employees from a large area.
Based on 2000 US Census commute pattern data, workers in Chambers County and each of the surrounding counties travel an average of 20.6 to 37.5 minutes to get to their jobs. Chambers County companies can anticipate that their labor draw area is, at a minimum, a 30 minute drive time from the site in Cusseta.
